As with any card game, someone playing Day & Night might get lucky with the perfect cards for a particular situation, but the more I play, the more I discover opportunities for turning the odds in my favor, for playing the probabilities of what I might draw, and for properly valuing the cards that I hold and can play for the current game state. Kudos to Eekels for an excellent first design – here’s hoping he can make it available to a wider audience some day or night…
Is Day & Night for you? That will largely depend on your personal tastes. But if you enjoy the game-play of modern classics like Magic: The Gathering CCG and Blue Moon, chances are that you'll find much to appreciate here. Even those who enjoy the tactical play of abstract games and are looking to branch out to something more thematic will also probably enjoy Day & Night. I can see this appealing to a wide range of people - I had high expectations, and it did not disappoint. Recommended!
...I was really impressed because it's really fun to play a game where both sides don't have the same forces and yet they feel balanced... It's certainly a very interesting game from a small company.
International Gamers Award 2009
In the 2-Player category, the award goes to Day & Night, a strategic game set in a fantasy world where Lady Day and Lady Night duel for the right to remain in their celestial palace. Each player possesses a unique set of cards, and must play them wisely to gain the upper hand and thwart their opponent. Day & Night is a beautifully illustrated game with original artwork. The game is designed by Valentijn Eekels and released by Mystics.nl. This is the first IGA for both Eekels and Mystics.nl.
The International Gamers Awards were created to recognize outstanding games and designers, as well as the companies that publish them. The awards are truly international in scope, with committee members representing countries throughout the world. As such, it is our belief that these awards will truly select the ‘best of the best’ and come to be respected by not only hobbyists, but the general public at large. We hope that this will lead to greater exposure for these wonderful games to more and more people and help spread the word of the "wonderful world of gaming" on a global scale.
